Writer. Travel specialist. Expert juggler of multiple tasks and time zones.
Sunny Fitzgerald Al Hawamdeh is a freelance writer and sustainable travel specialist. Her work appears in National Geographic, The New York Times, Lonely Planet, BBC Travel, Mic, and more. She is also a media member of the Adventure Travel Trade Association, Head of Global Partnerships at Academic Experiences Abroad, and a regular contributor to Kama`aina Magazine.
Small town friendly. Big city savvy.
Sunny grew up in a small town in the Adirondack Mountains, but was determined to live big - adventuring to Asia, Latin America, South Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. She has destination expertise in over 20 countries, a BA in International Studies from Middlebury College, an MA in Cultural Sustainability, certification in Sustainable Tourism, and more than a decade of experience designing international programs for adventurous and conscientious travelers.
With a compulsion for asking all the questions and an incurable addiction to understanding the lives and landscapes of the world, Sunny is often on the road – pursuing stories overlooked by mainstream media.
